Of all the shows MTV aired in the '90s, none represented the decade better than "Daria." The jaded, cynical teenager rolling her eyes on TV was the perfect pop culture representation of all the jaded, cynical teenagers rolling their eyes across America. Gia Forsyth was one of those eye-rollers. But like all sarcasm-loving high schoolers, Gia's grown up. Now she's a student and a mom who lives in L.A., but she still hasn't abandoned her love of Daria. In her free time, Gia runs an Etsy store called "Hooked Hands" in which she sells crocheted versions of geeky icons like Spock, Batman and, of course, Lawndale's resident Sultan of Sarcasm, Daria.
I emailed Gia to ask her some questions about this amazing creation and if she'd be willing to make Beavis and Butt-Head dolls. Our conversation is below. And her store, should you want a Daria doll of your own, is here.

Clutch: Why did you make the Daria doll?
Gia: I'm always trying to come up with underrepresented pop/cult icons to make, and Daria seemed like the perfect candidate.
Clutch: How big of a Daria fan are you?
Gia: I love Daria. The apathetic teenager, which I may have fancied myself to be at one time, was the perfect character to come out of the mid to late '90s.
Clutch: Do you have a favorite episode?
Gia: I love the "Road Worrier" episode where they're en route to Alternapalooza. This was at the height of my music festival-going days, so I loved the satire on that level. Also, there's this scene where it flashes to Quinn and her friends singing "MMMbop," which still cracks me up. When this episode first aired I had just come back from a high school field trip in which I was trapped on a bus with some energetic cheerleaders singing "MMMbop" at the top of their lungs.
Clutch: What other kind of stuff do you crochet?
Gia: I do a lot of fantasy/sci-fi/comic book characters. Think Totoro to Harley Quinn to Spock. I'm sort of a geek, so I just crochet the things I would want. I also love to turn things into Christmas ornaments, so don't be surprised if you see a Daria Christmas ornament popping up in a few months.
Clutch: Would you make Beavis and Butt-Head dolls if commissioned by a someone who runs a blog named after a part of a car?
Gia: I'd never thought about it, but they're definitely going on my list of things to do. Also, I love ideas, so if people ever come up with something they think would make an awesome doll, I want to hear about it!
