The basketball public will now return to its crappy little lives, per LeBron James' suggestion. So too will Birdman, only now the wagering rapper will be $2 million lighter in the bank because he bet that the Heat would win the NBA title. And we all know how that turned out.
"All the people that were rooting on me to fail, at the end of the day, they have to wake up tomorrow and have the same life that they had before they woke up today," James said after the Mavs handed the Heat a crushing defeat in the NBA Finals on Sunday. But Birdman wasn't rooting for King James to fail; he had backed them up with not one, not two, not three, not four, not five, not six, not seven...actually just two million. Just two million.
Birdman's life probably won't be much different with the loss, but how would you react if you saw two million dollars slowly go up in flames? Shock? Rage? Would you strangle King James? Maybe Birdman should ask LeBron for $500,000 since James only played three quarters.
The lesson: Don't bet big on a team that has a ridiculous celebration before they've won anything.
