At least one member of the hip-hop kingdom may have an issue with The Throne. Responding probably to Jay-Z's line from "H.A.M" off "Watch The Throne," Lil Wayne punched back at Jay on the track "It's Good," which leaked yesterday from Wayne's forever-upcoming "Tha Carter IV." Hova's shot, as a refresher, was this: "I'm like really half a billi n****, really you got baby money/Keep it real with n****s, n****s ain't got my lady money." Now here's Weezy's verse, which is unmistakably a response: "talk about Baby money, I got your baby money/Kidnap your b****, get that how much you love your lady money."
Strong words, directed at both Jay and his first lady, Beyoncé. The shot registers a 6.5 on the diss scale, or maybe it's a Category 3 with potential to become a monster. (Given the recent earthquake and upcoming hurricane on the East Coast, we're having trouble committing to a scale.) Addressing the incendiary verse from "It's Good," Weezy said:
I know there won't be any repercussions behind what I did. I know for a fact music is about perception. You can't do anything but perceive what you hear. I know that for a fact. So I can't ever be upset about someone's reaction...I'm not going to say I don't know what would happen before I even say [something on record]. I do know what will happen. I'm aware of it. But it is what it is.
In other words, he knows exactly what he said and isn't concerned about it. And as far as the money--Forbes recently put out a list of hip-hop's top earners of 2011, where Jay ranked numero uno with $37 million and Wayne ranked four with $15 million.
Maybe Wayne was seriously pissed and didn't let on after the "H.A.M." remark, or maybe he wanted to raise the profile for "Tha Carter IV" before it drops on Tuesday. Either way, the diss will be noticed; we are intrigued and await a response from Jay.
