Women may like us smooth and groomed, but we men are just hairy animals, and we like it that way. The shaving, the trimming, it's all so much work, so much pain (yeah, we've plucked our unibrows, and guess what, it KILLS!).

So it makes sense that there's the concept of playoff beards. Spend less time scraping off face skin and grooming, and more time going into BEAST MODE on the playing field. Unless you have the world's thinnest beard like, say, Sidney Crosby, it's an intimidation X-factor. So why has it only recently moved into the realm of the NBA? The NHL is famous for it. The NFL does it and you can't even see their faces. As for baseball, we're sure growing a playoff beard is against one of its oh-so-important, not-at-all annoying unwritten rules.

But the NBA, the NBA has finally come around. This year's playoffs still have a long way to go, but we've already seen some epic, Rip Van Winkle-style beards. Here are our 10 favorites, with the Clippers (ironically) coming out in full force.

Dustin "The Diamond" Poirier couldn't have planned it any better. Just as he prepares to fight in the main event of "UFC on Fuel" tonight against "Korean Zombie" Chan-Sung Jung, a movie documenting his rise in MMA is making its rounds. "Fightville" is being given the thumbs-up from MMA fans and moviegoers alike. Pretty awesome if you're a 23-year-old who was running with the wrong crowd just three years ago. Now, Poirier is inching closer to a UFC title shot and is being noticed in the streets as the guy in that MMA movie. Before he steps in the cage to go zombie hunting, Poirier sat down with MTV Clutch to discuss his movie debut, featherweight title aspirations and if Tuesday night will be the MMA version of "The Walking Dead."

What were you doing before MMA?
I was just doing the wrong things and hanging around with the wrong people. I didn't have any goals. MMA gave me something to be the best at. I'm a natural athlete and I love to compete so I fell in love with it. I was actually boxing at first and then I began training MMA. Every fight is like a spiritual experience. When I'm done with a fight I feel like I've learned something new about myself.

How did you get down with "Fightville"?
The director Michael Tucker was doing a documentary on veterans coming back from war and following their post-war life. One of the guys he was following was an amateur fighter and we ended up fighting on the same card. He filmed the entire card and I had a pretty crazy fight that night. He had never really seen MMA live and fell in love with it. He got in touch with the promoter, my coach Tim Credeaur, and went from there.

Did you ever think it'd turn into something like this?
I had no idea. I was an amateur fighter when this started. The footage goes back to 2009.

How do you feel about being in the main event against "The Korean Zombie" Chan-Sung Jung?
It's an awesome opportunity to take advantage of. I'm going to be the best I've ever been.

Is there any way possible that this can't be fight of the night?
The only other fight I see that could beat us is Donald Cerrone vs. Jeremy Stevens. Other that we're going to get fight of the night. That bonus is going to be in the bank, man!

Speaking of bonuses, you've earned one before with that nasty mounted triangle armbar against Max Holloway. Did you know you were going to do that?
I didn't plan that. I went for an armbar. I put my shin on the back of his head to roll him over and I just never put it back in front of his face to lock him down. It was a mistake on my part but he just sat up so I slapped a triangle on and mounted.

Yeah! I'm glad I didn't put it behind his head.

There has been a lot of talk that if you win you deserve a title shot. Do you feel ready?
If I go in there and I beat up Jung and finish him. Let's do it! That will be five in a row against good opponents. One more fight would be good, but if the UFC thinks I'm ready for a title shot after this, I'm ready.

Researchers at Yale are developing a "stay sober" pill which they claim will minimize the effects of alcohol. This is a horrible idea. Remember when you were little, and you broke your arm and you were like, "Man, it would be awesome to be a superhero who doesn't feel pain." Because you didn't realize pain is actually quite important? Without pain, you could get kicked in the nuts and have no idea your weekend is ruined. You could sit on your balls without even knowing it. And various other non-genital related things, probably. The point is, without pain, you would eventually meet a horrific (but pain-free!) end.

Same goes for getting drunk. It's a warning apparatus. Once you get to a certain level of drunkenness, your body just shuts down--even (especially) your penis!  It's 2 am, you've been holding that last beer for an hour, it's warmer than your face and there is just NO WAY your body is letting you consume anything else. Total drunken shutdown.

Now, what if those measures were gone? What if you could just keep drinking, all your faculties intact, for the whole night? By the end of the bender, half your blood would consist of barley and hops and your liver would probably explode. Again, a horrific death, but you'd be sober and aware the entire time.

There's nothing less sexy than the opera. Stuffy old aristocrats, old ladies holding up those diamond-encrusted glasses on a stick, people singing in Viking helmets. We'll pass.

Wait! Foxy British opera singer Katherine Jenkins has made us rethink our opinion on opera. She's got major crossover appeal (read: she's crazy hot). Sure, your mom may know about Jenkins because she's on "Dancing With The Stars." But we hadn't heard of her until this morning, when we saw the headlines splashed everywhere: "Katherine Jenkins has DWTS Meltdown." We didn't know what that meant, but we saw the accompanying screencaps of her wearing belly dancer garb, and we couldn't help ourselves from investigating further. Ya know, for work.

Off to the ol' Google Image machine. And then we wondered how we hadn't heard of this lovely blond 31-year-old with the jaw-dropping body. Oh, and she's a mad decent singer, too. We didn't want you guys to have to live in a Katherine Jenkins-free world like we had, so here you go. We think maybe those credit report commercials and public access broadcasts have been lying to us about fat ladies and the opera all this time.

Like professional athletes training for a grinding schedule, the cast of MTV2's "Guy Code" spent the past several months sharpening their wits for the upcoming season of the show. After reviewing their off-season training regimens, we're pretty much positive they'll be ready to dish more great "Code." For example, Jon Gabrus traveled to the Middle East  for a massively unhealthy offering from a domestic fast food chain--Pizza Hut. Because why not? When DJ Khaled says he's the best, he means it. The DJ/Label Executive/Uncontested King of Collaborations can corral any number of rappers into a room and make one big-ass track. It's an art very few have, but many try to emulate. His collaboration roster reads like the red carpet guest list at the opening night of the 40/40 Club. From "We Takin' Over" with guests like Lil Wayne, Rick Ross and T.I. to "Go Hard" with Kanye West and T-Pain, then "All I Do Is Win" with Snoop Dogg and Ludacris back around to "Take It To the Head" with Nicki Minaj and Chris Brown. We know there were a million other guests on these songs. Call this a rough list. DJ Khaled knows what he's doing. While he was on set for MTV's "Hip Hop Squares," Khaled let us in on a few secrets to the success of his collaborations. DJs listen up.

Sa da tay! Comedian/writer/director Louis C.K. just announced that his forgotten first feature film "Tomorrow Night" will be available soon for purchase on his website. Despite featuring the likes of  Todd Barry, J.B. Smoove and Steve Carell, the dark comedy has flown under the radar of even the most hardcore comedy nerds since its release in 1998 due to lack of distribution. Lucky for us, Louis is now excited about selling his work online after his "Live at the Beacon Theater" sold well.

Perhaps "Tomorrow Night" will join Louis C.K.'s other feature film "Pootie Tang" as a cult hit. Its release in 2001 was anti-climatic, but "Tang" has gone on to develop a strong following, jump-started the careers of s today's comedy stars like Wanda Sykes, Dave Attell and J.B. Smoove and honed C.K.'s directorial chops for FX's "Louie." While waiting for the Louis C.K. machine to release "Tomorrow Night," you can bide your time with these 10 weird and funny "Pootie Tang" GIFs.

We have to admit, "Bellator 68" wasn't as full of knockouts and submissions like we anticipated. You can't have people getting their limbs contorted and faces punched off every week. Nevertheless, it was a solid round of fights as the featherweight tournament winner was crowned and an exciting throwdown was mired in controversy.

Crotch Shot Heard Around The World

Daniel Straus took home $100k and a shot at the Bellator featherweight title by handily beating Marlon Sandro. Sucks for Sandro as this is the third straight time he has made it to the finals and lost. But there's a possibility that a kick in the nuts changed the game for Sandro. As soon as the bell sounded, Straus ran in and drilled Sandro in the family jewels. You could literally hear the foot slap the cup as Sandro cringed and fell to his knees. Sandro eventually was able to continue fighting but he lacked the killer instinct he usually possesses. A shot in the nads will do that to you.

Comeback Kid

Twenty-year-old Marcin Held looked like his night was going to end pretty early in his bout against Derrick Kennington. Kennington socked Marcin in the face and dropped him seconds into the fight. Held looked shocked and got to his feet only to be punched in the face some more. Held thought about it and decided to take the fight to the ground. Smart move. Moments later, Held locked in a leglock and got the tapout at the 2:08 mark.

No Satisfaction

Controversy seems to follow Marius "The Whitemare" Zaromski and Waachiim Spiritwolf whenever they step into the cage. Their first fight in 2010 ended in six seconds after Spiritwolf was accidentally poked in the eye. The rematch was fun but that cloud of controversy continued to follow. This time, Spiritwolf seemed to be getting the better of "The Whitemare" in the second round and clobbered him with a series of elbows and punches. Unfortunately, during the beating, a cut over Spiritwolf's eye began to open and pour blood. It didn't look that bad but a doctor decided that the fight should be stopped and called it at the end of the second round. The result was promptly booed.

Too many people out there don't appreciate the fact we live in a country where it rains Dr. Pepper and cheeseburgers grow on trees. We've come a long way from the Great Depression where survival meant eating soup made from hooves and worms and whatever else your great-granddad could get his grimy Jazz Era fingers on. We should appreciate our state of weight these days. If anything, it's a prize. And like any prize, there are champions who show it off well. Legends like Babe Ruth, John Belushi and Refrigerator Perry. To honor the robust greats, we have founded The MTV Clutch Fat Guys Hall of Fame and now proudly present its inaugural class.

He revolutionized baseball, dominated the game for most of his 21-season career and most importantly played with an unimpressive, unathletic weight of 215 pounds. Sounds pretty meek by today's standards, but this was the Roaring '20s when steaks weighed more than orphans and to get one you had to be a king, Al Capone or a NY Yankee who led the league in homers.

John Belushi

"Comedy" and "fat" go hand in hand like "weird" and Lady Gaga. John Belushi debuted on "Saturday Night Live" in its inaugural 1975 season. In between seasons and handfuls of Doritos he starred in "Animal House," a comedy film so epic it redefined frat life to the point where you had to have at least one fat guy in there. A man so attached to food and partying, he waged the famous food fight in the movie, but his hard partying and poor health led to his unfortunate death in 1982…The Year the Flab Died.

William Howard Taft

While he only served one term, in that short time he managed to install a special over-sized bathtub in the White House and admit New Mexico as a state. We can't induct a class of blubberguts without including The Fridge. A Super Bowl Champion with the Chicago Bears in '85, he rushed QBs like 12-year-old girls rush Bieber. Tipping the scales at a hefty 350, The Fridge became such a plump sensation they even modeled a G.I. Joe action figure after him, not to mention his appearance in "Wrestlemania 2." Such a storied career deserves a place in FGHoF.

The McGuire Twins

You might not know these two beasts of cellulite, but the McGuire Twins currently hold the Guinness World Record for "Heaviest Twins." That's right--two Tubs of Lard for the price of one. 1,470 pounds of Twin-tits were immortalized by Guinness and are best known for a snapshot of the boys riding a pair of Honda motorcycles (no cycles were harmed in the shooting of that photo…as far as we know.) The fellas have sadly passed on to Hog Heaven, but have been forever immortalized in pop culture by "The Simpsons" and "Family Guy."
